The infographic, a visual display of information, data or knowledge, is a popular and effective content marketing tool.
It’s a proven way to get your message across and increase backlinks to your website.
Now imagine adding video, increasing the impact of your infographic 300%.
It’s called a video infographic.
A video infographic delivers high-impact content to your audience combining voice, visuals and movement to make your message stick. But you don’t have to be a video expert to create a video infographic.
You can create a simple text-based video presentation using PowerPoint and Camtasia on the PC, or Keynote and Screenflow on the Mac.
You can also use a tool like Prezi or Brainshark.
To make your video infographic pop, there are 10.5 things to keep in mind:
(1) Decide the purpose of your video infographic.
What do you want to accomplish? What do you want the viewer to know or do?
Focus on ONE primary message or action.
(2) Keep your video infographic short, no more than 90 to 120 seconds.
A video infographic is not a tutorial. The goal is to communicate a few nuggets of high-value information and move the viewer to action.
(3) Open with attention-grabbing statistic.
My experience and observation is that number-based content is most effective. For example, the results of a survey, a marketing split test or the 3 avoidable mistakes.
(4) Be concise.
Use as few words per slide as possible to convey the message. Too much text slows the presentation and overwhelms the viewer.
(5) Use different sizes, fonts, angles and animation of the text for impact.
For example, if the information is about an increase in something, angle the words upward. If you’re communicating a statistic, make the number BIG on the page.
(6) Keep the background simple.
A video infographic is not a conventional PowerPoint presentation. Avoid fancy backgrounds. Make the content the focus of each page.
(7) Move through the slides quickly, no more than 5 to 10 seconds per slide.
This is essential to hold the viewers attention. The slides need to move quickly with just enough time for the viewer to get a snapshot of the message.
(8) Tell the viewer a specific action to take at the end of the video infographic.
For example, visit a specific page to download a special report, white paper, infoproduct, etc.
(9) Get feedback.
Before you publish it, get feedback from others. Did it hold their attention? Did it make them want to take the next step?
(10) Make it sharable.
Add social media share buttons below the video infographic to make it easy for viewers to share it with others.
(10.5) Focus on completion, not perfection.
Don’t compare your first video infographic with one created by a professional agency. Keep the focus on the content and complete it. You’ll improve with each new one you create.
